  11. DEMONSTRATION VERSION
  12. ----------------------
  13.  
  14. Welcome.  The demo versions of the AOR Hawk 5000 package is fully working 
  15. with the following exceptions:
  16.  
  17. 1. Video recording and the File|Save As... option is disabled
  18. 2. The program runs for 10 minute periods before exiting
  19.  
  20. To install the demonstration, you just need to unzip the distibution file
  21. (if appropriate) and run the INSTALL.EXE program.  All the distribution
  22. files will be copied into a directory on your hard disk.  Note, no files
  23. will be copied into your Windows directory and your system INI files will
  24. not be edited.  This makes removal of the demo simple.
  25.

  45. SDU5000 EEPROM VERSION REQUIREMENTS
  46. -----------------------------------
  47.  
  48. This software is designed to work with version 7.0 of the SDU5000 EEPROM.
  49. This version of the SDU's internal software supports the high speed "K"
  50. command and the AR5000.
  51.  
  52. If your SDU5000 has a serial number below 005901 and you have not already
  53. upgraded, you will need to do so.  A version 7.0 (or above) EEPROM can be
  54. obtained from your AOR dealer.
  55.

  57. USING THE SDU5000 WITH AN AR5000
  58. --------------------------------
  59.  
  60. Attenuator
  61.  
  62. The attenuator is only available below 1000 MHz when the 10dB or 0dB (off)
  63. settings can be seleted.  Above 1000 MHz, the attenuator is ignored
  64.  
  65. Operating mode
  66.  
  67. The SDU5000 will display "WFM" when the AR5000 is in FM mode with an IF
  68. bandwidth of more than 30 kHz.  Otherwise "NFM" is shown on the SDU500 and 
  69. the AR5000 remains in FM mode.  It is possible to select "AUT" (auto) mode.

  72. COPY PROTECTION
  73. ---------------

  75. AOR Hawk is copy protected using a system which places a token on your hard 
  76. disk when you install the program.  The program will only work on the disk 
  77. you installed it to.  There is no dongle or key-disk, so once installed the 
  78. program runs completely normally and you will not be inconvenienced (unlike 
  79. other schemes).
  80.  
  81. Specific points to remember:
  82.  
  83. 1. The distribution disk contains a two tokens.  This means that you can 
  84. install up to two complete copies of the software on separate machines 
  85. at once.  You cannot transfer the program to another machine without 
  86. first moving one of the tokens back onto the original distribution disk 
  87. then re-installing.  The tokens can easily be moved with the program 
  88. that is provided.  Contact your AOR distributor if you need additional 
  89. copies of the software.

  91. 2. You should keep you original disk in a safe place away from strong 
  92. magnetic fields, high humidity or other environmental conditions that 
  93. could damage it.  You will not be able to re-install the software or move 
  94. it to another machine without the original distribution disk.
  95.  
  96. 3. Two hidden files are copied to a hidden subdirectory of the Hawk
  97. directory (SDU5000.CCC and CCONTROL.SYS) when you install the software.
  98. These contain configuration information for the copy protection scheme and
  99. are normal DOS format files.  DO NOT DELETE THESE FILES UNDER ANY
  100. CIRCUMSTANCES.  If these files are deleted,  AOR Hawk will not run.
  101.  
  102. 4. If you are using a backup utility, make sure that the two hidden files 
  103. are not backed up.  When restored, the copy protection scheme may not be 
  104. able to validate the installation and AOR Hawk will not run.  Most 
  105. backup utilities do not touch these files because they have the hidden, 
  106. system and read-only attributes set.  The two copy protection files also 
  107. do not have the archive bit set, so you should be able to exclude them
  108. from backups by setting up your backup software to ignore files without an 
  109. archive bit.  Remember, it is not the backup but the restore that can 
  110. cause problems.

  112. 5. The /d+ option of the PC-Kwik disk cache software from Multisoft 
  113. Corporation is not compatible with the copy protection scheme and should be 
  114. temporarily disabled when installing AOR Hawk or moving the token. 
  115. HyperCache also affects the copy protection scheme in the same way because 
  116. of non-standard methods of accessing the floppy disk drive. Again, it should 
  117. be temporarily disabled, but both caches may be used at other times.
  118.  
  119. 6. The copy protection scheme is compatible with disk drives compressed with 
  120. SuperStor, Stacker and DoubleSpace.  However, you should temporarily remove 
  121. the token from the hard disk when installing one of these compression 
  122. utilities because the protection will appear invalid when the drives are 
  123. compressed.  The disk compression utilities warn you of this in their
  124. manuals.
  125.  
  126. 7.  The copy protection scheme is known to be compatible with the following 
  127. disk defragmenters: Central Point's Compress, Digital Research's Diskopt, 
  128. Stac's Sdefrag and Microsoft's Defrag.
  129.  
  130. 8.  The copy protection scheme is not currently compatible with Windows NT.
  131.  
  132. 9.  The copy protection scheme is not compatible with non-standard floppy
  133. disk systems.  At present (7/95) this includes the following PCs:
  134.  
  135.     Evesham Vale Voyager laptop
  136.     Zeos Pentiums
  137.  
  138. It is possible to install onto a PC with a non-standard floppy disk (or no
  139. floppy disk) using a networked standard drive.  The easiest way to do this
  140. if you do not already have a network is to use the INTERLNK or INTERSVR
  141. utilities supplied with MS-DOS.
  142.  
  143. 10.  The copy protection scheme is compatible with Windows 95.  However,
  144. you can completely erase your tokens using Explorer to drag and drop the
  145. SDU5000 directory onto the Recycle bin.  Although the token files are
  146. not deleted, they cannot be restored to their original positions on disk.
  147. EXPLORER DOES NOT GIVE WARNINGS LIKE FILE MANAGER UNDER WINDOWS 3.X!.

  150. MACHINE SPEED AND VIDEO FRAME RATE
  151. ----------------------------------
  152.  
  153. The software attempts to automatically match the rate at which video
  154. frames are requested with the rate that they can be displayed on your PC.
  155. This means that faster PCs will display video faster than slower ones.  The
  156. algorithm used determines the correct rate to use and will settle down in
  157. the first ten minutes of operation.
  158.  
  159. If you change your PC for a faster one, you can obtain improved performance 
  160. by decreasing the "delay" value in the "[RS-232]" section of the SDU5000.INI 
  161. file.  Try setting the value to 200 (milliseconds) then restart the program.  
  162. You can do this using a text editor (such as Windows Notepad) to edit the 
  163. value.  ONLY DO THIS WHILE AOR Hawk IS NOT RUNNING.  Alternatively, you can 
  164. manually copy the original version of SDU5000.INI from the distribution disk 
  165. onto your system (again while Hawk 5000 is not running).
